Quick Overview

This Antique Indian Club weighs in at just under 4 Pounds, it is very unusual, as it is hollowed out on the end. My guess is that it would have been as much as a pound heavier otherwise, but that is what you get with real sideshow props. Original Poster included.

Antique 4 lbs. Indian Club & County Fair Poster

Man, you guys know I love a good story.
Just the other day, I had an appointment with one of the pickers who finds me good stuff. The voice mail was simple, “Rog, you've got to meet this old broad. Tuesday 2 o'clock. Here's the address... I know, short notice. Don't be late.”
Very rarely have I had so memorable an introduction as the one on got on that day.

So, there I was, turning down a dirt driveway and there she was. No one could miss her. The glitter green eyeshadow alone would have made her memorable. She was sitting on a rusted patio chair in front of a really awesome crumbling barn.

“You got to tell me brave captain,
Why are the wicked so strong,
How do the angels get to sleep,
When the devil leaves the porch light on.”

When the first words out of a person's mouth are the cigarette croaked lines of a Tom Waits song, you know you are in for an interesting afternoon. Anyway, I dug several great pieces out of that old barn. One of them was the unusual Indian Club you see in the photo. I didn't need to pair it up with that classic Sumner County County Fair “Great Sutton Shows on the Midway” poster, she did it for me. As she told it to me, “Momma was dead and Daddy was a traveling salesmen, out of town as usual that weekend. The year before, I won the Miss Apple Pie contest and got the title stripped from me for... misbehavior. What do you think of that?” She really didn't know if she had the title correct, but I'm sure she would have had a better memory if her flask weren't next to her coffee cup. She went on to say, “Well, the strongman running the high striker game forgot his clubs at my house. He was pretty memorable, so I grabbed one of the County Fair posters after they moved the sideshow on down the road. I have no idea what happened to the other club, but if I find it, I will give you a call.”

That was some local color. Gallatin, Tennessee must have been an interesting place. Great Sutton Shows started in 1869, but these are not that old. If the story is true, then she got the club and poster at least 40 years ago. God knows how old the club actually is.

While this Indian Club weighs in at just under 4 Pounds, it is very unusual, as it is hollowed out on the end. My guess is that it would have been as much as a pound heavier otherwise, but that is what you get with real sideshow props. The club does have some splits and dings, but it is totally usable. It was clearly in regular use at some point. Regardless, there are NO RETURNS on this pair of items. If you are "that guy", then don't buy it. Someone who will appreciate a unique and cool antique set like this will buy it.
